December 2021: Mobilizing Canada’s cultural sector for the climate emergency
TAGS:

Thank you for your interest in SCALE (Sectoral Climate Arts Leadership for the Emergency), an emergent national hub to develop strategy, align activities, and activate the leadership of Canada’s arts and culture sector in the climate emergency. To those who have recently joined our mailing list, welcome!

Unequivocally, the climate emergency is here and now. Our hearts go out to all those affected by the devastating floods in BC and Atlantic Canada. As our colleagues at the Climate Emergency Unit remind us, ‘Now is the time to sound the alarm, jump-start a grand transition and mobilize Canada for the climate emergency. We need to move at a speed and scale not seen since the Second World War.’

These tumultuous times call for a coordinated and impactful response from our sector. It is up to us to lead cultural transformation — a crucial aspect of the just transition to a livable future. To this end, SCALE’s Coordinating Circle, Roundtable and working groups have been actively building the foundation of the organization as we prepare for our public launch in early 2022 and plan related sector-wide initiatives, such as a Culture Declares Emergency campaign, a toolkit for climate acknowledgements, and a series of online educational resources. Please stay tuned, or contact us to get involved.

We’ll soon be launching a regular newsletter to bring you the most recent developments from the intersection of culture and climate in Canada, with artistic inspirations and suggestions for further reading.

Please help us grow our network by forwarding this email and encouraging your colleagues to join our mailing list here. If you would like to become more involved in SCALE—by attending bi-monthly Roundtable meetings, participating in a working group, or by any other means—please contact us at info@scale-lesaut.ca. Everyone is needed, and everyone is welcome.

In gratitude and solidarity,

SCALE Coordinating Circle
