Welcome to SCALE – Sectoral Climate Arts Leadership for the Emergency. We’re so glad you’re here.
SCALE is a “network of networks” of artists and organizations working at the intersection of culture and climate in Canada. Formed in 2021, our mandate is to foster a coordinated, artful and impactful response to the climate emergency from Canada’s arts and culture sector.
We serve as a national hub to develop strategy, align activities, and build the leadership capacity of Canada’s arts and culture sector in the climate emergency. SCALE is driven by the conviction that inclusive, comprehensive, and far-reaching collaboration, both within and beyond our sector, will propel our creative work towards the decisive tipping points of cultural transformation.
The urgency of the climate and ecological crisis demands that the arts and culture sector activate its unique capacity for creative expression in service of a livable future for all.
In this critical decade of action, this requires a clear focus on climate justice and a genuine transformation in values: from consumerism and extraction to stewardship and regeneration.
THREE MODES OF ENGAGEMENT
Measuring and minimizing climate impacts associated with our activities.
Communicating and aestheticizing scientific outputs, as well as advocating for policy change through art.
REAUTHORING THE WORLD
Activating the unique creative capacities of our sector to build the imaginative horizon of the post-fossil world, rallying citizens with courage and heart to strive towards these green and just futures.
